HARTFORD BRIDGE, hamlet in Elvetham
Middle English 'bridge at Hertford' meaning 'hart (mature male red deer)
ford'. The bridge presumably superseded the ford. The name of the river HART is
a modern back formation from either this name or HARTLEY WINTNEY nearby.
